Can I just say… thank you! I am overwhelmed with all the love I received on my last blog post, comments, emails and texts. I’m glad I managed to touch upon a subject that so many of you recognized yourself in. Life is lighter when you get help carrying the weight from people around you. Again, thank you.
So just over a year ago something really beautiful happened, and also very scary. Toby asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. BAM! That’s what you call playing hardcore. What has followed was a year of turning our lives upside down. Now that things have calmed down (not really!), it is about time to start this adventure of becoming the sparkling bride. Hah! Bride… me in white, high heels, down the aisle, grabbing my dad’s arm a bit too hard, desperately trying to hide my happy and glassy eyes from everyone, stopping both Toby’s and my own nervous giggling, I do… PARTY!
The aisle better be no walk of horror. I’m so going to fall on my face. High risk, high reward, right? The funny thing is it is not the “I do” part that I’m nervous about. This part is something Toby and I have already agreed on, the deal is signed. So here is the raw truth about weddings: they are not easy. Whoever sad it is all going to be glam and romantic is a big fat liar! Money, the date, how small, how big, more money, who, WHERE??? Toby’s and mine biggest challenge has for sure been agreeing on where to have the wedding. Toby is from England, I’m from Norway and we now both live in San Francisco.
Let’s just spin the globe.. spin it and let by chance be our chance. Let one day be our day one.
The globe stopped and our finger was resting at our compromise. Portugal. It’s in Europe, close to family. Not in Norway and not in England, neutral ground. San Francisco weather, but not San Francisco prices. A breathtaking destination, once a traveler always a traveler. So. Why not?
The trip to England did me well. I got the deep breath I needed. I even got hugs from some of my absolute favorite people on this planet. I really felt loved.
But flying to Europe wasn’t just for happy reunions, it was also to see if Portugal would be worthy of Our Day. Hopefully you will only have one wedding in your life ( hmm :-P) so it needs to be special. Right? Let me put it short; I love Portugal! Portugal, you are everything and more I want in a place. You are as good-looking as California, but you are so much kinder to my wallet, you are as peaceful as the Norwegian Forest, but warmer in your welcome, you are as organized as the properness of English royalty, but just with an extra cheeky edge. We will become good friends, Portugal, I’m sure of it.
Let’s get this party started!
This is too good!
